ReelTOOL Support and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The following are some frequently asked questions about ReelTool.   If you have a problem or question that isn't answered here, please email support@reeltool.com

Question:

How do I install ReelTOOL on PC's that only have .Net v2.0 installed? The installer notifies you that .Net v1.1 is required and offers to take you to the Microsoft site where you can download it, but the site you're taken to is for .Net v2.0 instead.

Answer:

Use the links below to download and install .Net v1.1 on your computer prior to attempting another installation of ReelTOOL.

There should be no problem with installing both .Net v1.1 and .Net v2.0 on the same PC. Both versions are independent of each other. It is, infact, quite common to have both versions installed on the same PC.

Microsoft's .Net v1.1

Microsoft's .Net v1.1 Service Pack 1 (Security Updates)--Install after .Net v1.1

Once you have installed .Net v1.1 and it's Service Pack 1, you should have no problem using the ReelTOOL Installer or .Net v2.0 applications.

Windows 98, 2000, or XP. ReelTOOL was developed using the Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1. The .NET Framework is supported in Windows 98, 2000, and XP. You must have the .NET Framework installed to use ReelTOOL. If you do not, you can download it from the Microsoft site here.

Question:

What size images are supported?

Answer:

The following resolutions are supported:

330x300                      440x400                      550x500

660x600                      770x700                      880x800

990x900                      1100x1000                  1210x1100

There is also an automatic option which will produce frame images at the raw image size supported by the dpi of the image.  1200 dpi images typically support a 550x500 frame size. Images will be enlarged no more than 5% by the automatic option to try and fit the standardized sizing (i.e. 548x498 image will bump to 550x500 because it's within 5%)

Question:

What scanning tips would you recommend?

Answer:

  • Try to blow off dust/lint on the reels before scanning.
  • Reels should be scanned with the correct side down on the glass.
  • Scan at 2400dpi if your scanner and available hard disk space will support it.
  • Scan reel with enough white space around the reel to ensure there is no clipping of the reel edges.
  • You may want to experiment with the use of an unsharp mask when scanning.
  • If you choose to save in jpeg format for hard disk considerations, be sure to set the jpeg options to best quality-least compression
